The platform offers a few ways for teachers to gather data based on metrics such as time on task, grade per unit and lesson, and more.

Reports in BusinessU are a great way for teachers to monitor student usage, class averages, and overall grades. Reports are generated and accessed in two ways: within an assignment page, and on the Reports page.

Reports Page

Locate the Reports tab at the top of the BusinessU page. From here, there are a few options for what to include in the report:

  • Multiple Classes: Compare all students in a given subject area (ex: How did scores from First Period Marketing compare with Second Period Marketing? Which class of Intro to Business spent the most time on X assignment?).

  • Multiple Students: Compare students in a given class (ex: What is the average grade for each student on Topic 1? How did pre-test averages compare with post-test averages? Which students are spending adequate time on task, and which aren't?).

  • One Student: View data for one student (ex: How has John performed on Topic 8 assignments? How much time is Jane spending on the Lesson Texts?). Data related to one student can also be generated by clicking on that student's name in the gradebook.

Next, select the data breakdown:

  • Standards: See how students performed regarding specific standards.

  • Lessons: View student data broken down by Semester, Topic, Lesson, and Assignment.

  • Tasks: Specific to the Microsoft Office Simulation courses, this selection shows student data related to the completion of the Learn and Practice assignments.

  • In General: See student data across all metrics.

Lastly, choose the metric to report on, including content visited, time on task, or grade. This selection can be changed after the report has been generated as well.

View Settings - By default, data is displayed with colors for being above and below one standard deviation of the average. Click the "gear" icon to change those markers to be based on a benchmark percentage, a manually determined range of percentages, or a heatmap.

Assignment Report

Find and click on the Reports tab in the left margin within an assignment. A bar graph will show class average scores for each question, data helpful when reviewing student mastery on an assessment. Toggle to Time on Task to view a student-by-student breakdown of data. Time on task tracks the amount of time students spend with that assignment page open in their browser.
