BusinessU features dynamic grading opportunities for teachers. Each course features both auto-graded and teacher-graded assignments. To see student work and scores, click on an assignment, then locate a list of student names in the left margin. Click on any individual student to see their work, and click on All Students to see a complete view of submission details for all students.

Auto-Graded Assignments

Multiple-choice assessments, glossary quizzes, and matching activities are auto-graded in BusinessU. Once students submit their work, they are automatically given a grade that is recorded for the teacher within the assignment and in the grade book.

Teacher-Graded Assignments

Assignments that are not auto-graded will show as Ungraded until the teacher assigns a score. There are a few ways to assign scores for free-response assignments:

  1. Student-by-student: Student work can be reviewed within any assignment. To see student work, click on the student’s name in the left margin of the assignment and assign points question-by-question, or review the assignment and submit an overall score at the top. Use the navigation buttons to move on to the next student, or select another student from the list on the left

  2. Bulk Grading: To assign a score to multiple students at once, select the All Students tab in the left margin, then click the checkbox next to each student receiving the score. Bulk Actions will then allow for the teacher to assign a grade for the selected students.

Resetting, Unsubmitting, and Editing Grades

Teachers can manage submitted work in three ways:

  1. Reset and Clear Answers: The assignment is completely reset, and all scores and student work will be erased.

  2. Unsubmit: The assignment is “given back” to students with all the work they completed before, but the score, if given, is erased. Students will be able to edit their work and submit it again.

  3. Edit Grade: The teacher can overwrite the grade previously given.

Gradebook Basics

BusinessU’s gradebook is interactive and gives the teacher yet another way to manage content, scores, and reporting. Within the gradebook tab, enabled assignments are listed across the top row with tags for due date, grading category, and total points. Student names are listed in the first column with their overall class grade in the margin. Some more advanced features include:

  1. Sort: Use the sort feature to rearrange assignments to fit grading needs. The most helpful sort option is Created Date - Newest First. This option keeps the most recent assignments on the left side of the gradebook for easy access.

  2. Filter: Use the filter feature to show specific assignments. The most helpful filter for efficient grading is Filter Ungraded, which shows all assignments needing a teacher-assigned grade.

  3. Student Reporting: Click on any student name to generate a report showing data for time on task, content visited, grade, and number of attempts organized by lesson and unit.

  4. Assignment Quick Access: Assignment names are hyperlinked to the assignment page for quick reference and management.

  5. Interactive Cells: Quickly edit any grade by clicking into the cell and typing a new percentage or point value. Also, notice tags for Missing and Ungraded assignments.
