Group Assignment Types
There are three group assignment types:
Individual Assignment: Each student will submit their own assignment submission.
Group (Shared Submissions): Students are assigned to a group, one student is marked as the team leader. Only the team leader is responsible for submitting on behalf of the group
Group (Individual Submissions): Students are assigned to a group, one student is marked as the team leader. But all students are required to submit their own submission.
Most assignments in BusinessU are individual assignments by default. To convert an assignment to a group assignment, open the assignment, click on the Groups in the left menu bar, click Make this a Group Assignment. Once selected, use the dropdown in the top right corner to switch between Group Assignment - Shared Submissions or Group Assignment Individual Submissions.
Create and Assign Groups
Once converted to a group assignment, there are multiple ways to create and assign groups. Options include:
Load from Presets: To access a previously-saved group preset, click Load from Preset. See the Manage Groups Presets tutorial for more on creating presets.
Generate Groups: Generate groups randomly by selecting the # of groups or # of students per group. From here, there are a few ways to optimize grouping:
Maximum Collaboration: This option analyzes all past group assignments in your class, and it prioritizes grouping students together who have worked together the least.
Leadership Boost: This option analyzes all past group assignments in your class, and it prioritizes assigning leaders who have led the least number of groups.
Once ready, click Generate Groups.
Manually: Bypass the automatic group generation options and manually create and assign group members.
Students will see their group members and group leader when viewing the assignment on their BusinessU account.
Manage Groups
Once groups have been created and group members assigned, there are various group management tools available to adjust the group assignment settings:
Generate Groups: Don’t like the groups that were assigned? Click Generate Groups to go through the auto generation options again.
Load from Preset: Override the group by loading a preset.
Save as Preset: To save a new grouping for future use, click Save as Preset.
Shuffle: Quickly shuffle around the group members, group leaders, or both

Both Groups and Leaders
Drag and Drop: To manually move students, click and hold the hamburger (three lines) next to each student. Move and drop them in another group or move them to the top to ungroup them.
Add or Delete Groups: Click Add Group if you want to manually add a new group. Click the trash can icon to remove a group completely. If deleted, students will be added to the ungrouped students section at the top.
Rename Groups: Change the name of each group by clicking each group name box
To see leader efficacy metrics, hover over the Leader star next to each team leader. It will show the number of times a student has been a team leader, and their average grade on group assignments they led.
Grading with Groups
Within a group assignment, notice the group names listed below each student name in the left margin. If the assignment is marked as Group (Shared Submission), click on any student to see their group’s submission. When graded, that grade will be automatically distributed to all group members. The teacher is not able to override the grade for individual group members when set to Shared Submissions. Change the group type to Group (Individual Submissions) for more control.
